Five lighting fixtures on the ceiling of the National Indoor Stadium
(BEIJING, November 26) -- The Olympic projects have adhered to the basic tenet of "people first" from the beginning. Project planning and design have borrowed from international standards and address the needs of various populations.
The needs of people with a disability, the athletes, trainers, judges, and officials have all received special attention. Convenience and comfort have been key considerations.
With respect to the needs of people with a disability, a 300-sq-m wheelchair-accessible seating area that is able to accommodate 250-300 wheelchair users has been built on the north side of the stadium.
In addition, spectators using wheelchairs can get to the seating area via a designated elevator.
The new National Indoor Stadium is no exception. During the Olympic Games, the venue will hold the Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline, and Handball competitions and during the Paralympic Games, the venue will hold the Wheelchair Basketball competition.
