The Olympic Village: humanization and environmental protection

(BEIJING, November 6) -- Last week, the 42 apartment buildings in the Olympic Village initially completed construction and were shown to the public. The mystery of the Olympic Village has been unveiled.

The vice director of the Olympic Village Department of BOCOG, Deng Yaping, said, "The Olympic Village has to allow everyone to live comfortably."

The Olympic Village will open on July 20, 2008. It is comprised of a residential area and an international area.

The residential area contains the athletes' apartments, comprehensive clinics, restaurants, multi-functional library, and other relevant service facilities.

The international area is to be used for the welcoming ceremony for the delegations and other reception activities.

Rooms in the Olympic Village embody humanization. Every apartment is equipped with broadband, telephone, cable TV, closed circuit television, infrared theft alarm, and fingerprint lock.

The Olympic Village achieves energy savings and environmental protection through a number of ways. It uses a solar energy-powered hot water system, which could save 5.5 million kilowatts of electricity and reduce 6,000 tons of CO2 emission.

In addition, environmental-friendly materials that are formaldehyde-free and create zero pollution were widely used in its construction.
