(BEIJING, November 26) -- The unique, "folding fan"-shaped National Indoor Stadium was recently delivered for use. It is to be one of the main Olympic competition venues, and next year, it will hold the Olympic Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline, and Handball competitions and the Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball competition.

The roof of the National Indoor Stadium resembles an unfurled traditional Chinese folding fan and perfectly complements the flat roof of the neighboring National Aquatics Center to the south and the single bend of the National Conference Center.

The Chinese say that a folding fan holds a treasure of cultural details; it is a component of Chinese culture. The building reflects the aesthetics of the traditional Chinese architecture combined with modern functional elements.
